ASATTAHIR International Foundation (AIF) has carried out fumigation exercise and sensitization of IDPs on personal hygiene at Gwiwa Eka IDP camp, Sokoto state to curtail the spread of Malaria, cholera and water borne diseases on 13th August, 2022.

Following the ‘need assessment’ of the IDPs at Gwiwa Eka IDP camp conducted by the project management team (PMT) of ASATTAHIR International Foundation (AIF) on the 6th of August, 2022. AIF responded to some of the pressing needs of the IDPs as identified during the assessment, particularly IDPs settling at Gidan Shanu and its surroundings in Gwiwa Eka.
AIF carried out a fumigation exercise at the locations to curtail the spread of Malaria and forestall the outbreak of (the already suspected cases of) cholera and other water borne diseases in those settlements, especially among women and children. The fumigation exercise was carried out on the 13th August, 2022. AIF team worked closely with the head of the IDPs Mallam Yusuf Musa Kassu.
After the fumigation, the foundation also sensitized the IDPs on good WASH practices. And to prevent food poisoning, the beneficiaries were advised not to consume vegetables from areas fumigated until after few days. They were also urged to ensure they always wash their hands and dishes with soap and clean water after use or eating.
To ensure effective age group and gender specific interventions, AIF is working with few other IDPs led by the head of the IDPs, Mallam Yusuf Musa Kassu to classify the IDPs into 3 main groups; the aged (un-trainable and dependent), mid-age (trainable) and children (trainable and dependent) all to be aggregated by gender.
ASATTAHIR International Foundation (AIF) as a humanitarian outfit which is geared towards championing, facilitating and enhancing people’s empowerment for sustainable human development, beliefs the IDPs deserve to lead decent lives and is optimistic that with synergy among development partners, the dignity of the IDPs and their fundamental rights will be upheld.
