Kaduna,March 14.2022(NAN) Some residents of Rigachikun area,Igabi Local Government Area, Kaduna state on Monday decried over alleged illegal demolition of their houses by the Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Agency (KASUPDA)
They stated that the demolition was carried out on Friday,March 11 by officials of KASUPDA and some vigilant group.
A visit by reporters to the area revealed that some selected houses were demolished while others were not.
Habib Ahmed a resident of the area whose house was demolished said he bought his land from reliable people who are still alive adding that he presented all documents to KASUPDA and got approval to strat building.
He appealed to government to take necessary action on that matter saying situation would be bad aggrieved take laws in their hands.
“After building my house and occupying it with my family,this demolition happened without notice.
“feel bad, I had a sleepless night because I have been investing in my building for three years depriving myself some things just to get my own house but unfortunately,it was destroyed in a day”,he lamented
Muhammad Sanusi, another victim said he got a call three days ago around 10pm informing him that KASUPDA were demolishing houses and his own was among.
He said he was informed that the demolition exercise was allegedly planned by Mamadi who claim the land belonged to him.
“They said the lands belongs to mamadi saying it was his brother that sold the land without his knowledge;we have site plan and other documents for processing at KASUPDA.
“There was no notice, nobody informed us of any demolition and we lost some of properties as most of us were not around when the demolition took place”,he said.
Similarly, Sanusi Bello a resident of the area described the situation as devastating saying that people’s houses were demolished without reason.and without prior notice.
He said that they community were suspicious of the demolishing exercise as it happened on Friday which is a free working day in Kaduna.
Another resident Nasiru Ibrahim,said he witnessed the demolition of houses by some people who came with the official car of KASUPDA and where excorted by the Kaduna vigilantee officials.
“I saw them demolishing houses saying there was a person claiming that land belongs to him and he had gotten court order to demolish the house.
“For now we cannot name the person behind the demolition; our phones were even siezed whenever we attempted to make a call at that time”,he said
According to him, more than 15 houses were demolished adding that the owners of the houses had been paying their ground rate with some having their certificate of ownership
