From Ibrahim Dahiru Danfulani

The National Ear Care Center, Kaduna  has bagged the “International Award On Health & Safety Standards” conferred by Freelance Journalists Federation (FJF).

Speaking while presenting the award to the Medical Director on Tuesday in Kaduna, Administrator FJF Nigeria, Solomon Semaka Suleiman said it was conferred based on the centre’s professionalism.
“This award being conferred on the National Ear Care Center today is the highest recognition to indicate maximum  professionalism, refined medical ethics and best global practices in health & safety standards,” he said.

Suleiman, who is also the Convener Save Nigeria Movement, said that for the center to earn such a feat within a short period of time and given the limited resources available at its disposal  is indeed  commendable.
“There could not have been a better time for this morale booster to the management,” he added.
He explained that the  2021 extraordinary award committee has its members drawn from the  civil society, religious organisations and the media.

“The Committee is at the National Ear Care Center Kaduna on a mission to confirm the views of ordinary Nigerians as reflected in our surveys; as well as convey appreciation of nigerians to the leadership and management of this great institution”

“Since the establishment of the center, it has grappled with multiple  challenges, ranging from lack of funding and lack of adequate infrastructure.
“But in the face of all this challenges, successive  managements of the  center have continued to do their best to offer essential services to the public in line with the Act establishing the center.
“The most outstanding milestone recorded under the current management based on our assessment  has been in the areas of; human capacity development and staff training; accountability and due process in resource utilisation, improved staff professionalism and ethics; above all, the center has continued to be public sector driven.
“Under the current management, the drive for research has doubled. These efforts no doubt have yielded  tremendous accolades for the center  both nationally and internationally.
“The many  reforms by the current management of the center has enhanced the  availability of essential services the center was established to provide.  This is very highly commendable,” he said.
Speaking further, he said that it is pertinent to note that regardless of whatever successes recorded in the center, if the achievements are not properly reported  by the media,  the fundamental objective of the center;  which is, to offer essential ear care services to Nigerians would be defeated. Nigerians need to know about the center, what essential  services they offer to the masses.
He said that the Freelance Journalists Federation (FJF) was conceived  to create a  platform for other independent  professionals who have interest in media management to have the opportunity to advance their goals.
“The phenomenal technological advancement in the 21st century has made the combined regulation of mainstream and digital media a very difficult task for government and the private sector,” he added.
In his response, the Medical Director  of the Ear Care Center, Dr. Mustapha Abubakar Yaro said that  the centre’s permanent site was relocated to Kaduna and since then has witnessed massive improvements.
“Apart from services we render, we have three schools attached to this centre.
“We have seen everything is going ICT, we are trying to meet needs of being a paperless hospital in running activities in the hospital.
“We try to maintain standards at the centre and ensure that what we do meets global best practices in terms of ENT,” he said.
Dr. Yaro.said that they  have also constructed health information block and pharmacy.
“We are glad also to say that last year we received members of the National Assembly and during the budget defence, I was specifically asked to stand up for recognition as a result of our achievements.
“I want to assure you that in ENT, there is no surgery that cannot be done in this hospital.
“I am happy you are here and we appreciate your interest in partnership with us.
“We are happy and appreciate you coming here, we are willing to form a partnership,” he said.
