The Federal Government through it’s Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development in collaboration with National Orientation Agency, NOA and National Youth Service Corps NYSC, has commenced data capturing and enumeration exercise for school feeding scheme of primary one, two to three pupils in Zamfara State as over 250,000 pupils were currently captured to benefit from the program in the state.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Faruq who was represented by the Assistant Legal Adviser Barrister Ibrahim Modibbo of the legal department in the ministry in an interview with Blueprint during the enrollment exercise at Janyau Model Primary School Gusau and Maru Model Primary School located in Gusau and Maru Local government councils Tuesday said, Zamfara State has over 1,200 public primary schools.
He said after the ongoing enumeration exercise, the ministry will have the total additional pupils captured in Zamfara State for them to be enrolled in to the Federal Government Feeding Programme for proper commencement.
He said the essence of the enumeration exercise is to improve enrollment drive and assist less privillaged children to be enrolled in to primary schools so as to have access to basic education in the country.
“The exercise was also to enable the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs Disaster Management and Social Development obtaining accurate data of the pupils at primary 1,2 to 3 with a view to have accurate number of pupils across Zamfara State”. He said.
In an interview with Blueprint, the Zamfara state Director of National Orientation Agency NOA, Salisu Muhammad Abdullahi, State NOA Director. said his agency will remain resolute to ensure successful enumeration exercise and enlighten the parents through radio and television jingles on the significance of enrolling their children to primary schools in the state.
In an interview with some benefiting pupils for the federal government feeding Programme in both Gusau and Maru Model Primary Schools visited by our correspondent lamented that since the outbreak of Coronavirus COVID-19, Pandemic, the feeding Programme has been terminated in their schools, calling on Federal Government to sustain the scheme.
