With much grief, sorrow, depression and saddening that we stand down today to watch the exit of one of our proud son, whom have meritoriously served his father’s land to reach the zenith of his career, bowing out not only from Nigerian Army but also from the exalted prestigious position of Chief of Army Staff. ππππ
Gen TYB adjudged to be one of the finest soldiers Nigeria has ever had, is no doubt an epitome of military pride, a living testimony to the gains of diligence, discipline, dynamism, dedication and distinction. He is both affable and personable. He is both exciting and excitable. He is very humble, gentle and endearing personality.
His method in fashioning tool for the liberation of Nigeria from the shackles and manacles of terrorism, insurgency and above all securing Nigeria’s territorial borders has always been total, bold and firm. One of his endearing qualities is choosing to lead the asymmetric warfares and battles from the front lines beyond directing it from Abuja comfort zones. This exemplary leadership style has not only motivated his subordinates but also earned successes by way of the Army reclaiming over 14 LGAs of Borno State that were under Boko Haram occupation.
He achieved this feat at time when all hopes was lost, as the Nigerian Army forces were grappling to regain to their feet and bearings, amidst numerous daunting challenges like having to cope with obsolete equipment, small workforce, endemic corruption and above all coping with the fall out arising from conflict revaging Mali, Libya and other conflict flash points in the West and North of Africa.
Many Army Officers that attained the prestigious position of Chief Army Staff before him, have little to show in terms of quantum of the development strides they impacted to their region and Nation. His exit will no doubt create a very big vacuum that WILL NOT easily be filled by another son of Borno State for years to come.
Among some of his other achievements that remain unprecedented, monumental, unmatched and cannot easily be forgotten or dismiss into trash can of archives are the establishment of Nigerian Army Univ Biu; Peace and Conflict Institute in Buratai; Mass recruitment of our sons and daughters in to the Army, not to talk other minor projects
Gen TYB has no doubt served and made an indelible footprint in the sand time that posterity and good people of Nigeria will ever live to remember, celebrate and eulogize him.
On the other hand, conscious of the fact that no condition is permanent and that there must be day like this that will inevitable come to pass, that the old must step aside for younger ones to take over and grow, we therefore join the millions of patriotic Nigerians in celebrating General TYB exit from Nigerian Army. Glory be to Allah Almighty for making possible and easier for him to part away with his colleagues, friends and love ones in the Army forces in peace and harmony.
