The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai, has disclosed that the Nigerian Army remains resilient, determined and United in it’s efforts to counter insurgency, banditry and other criminal elements to ensure that the enabling and conducive atmosphere is created for investment, economic and infrastructural development.

He also advised Nigerian Youths to be weary of person’s or groups advising them against misguided protests pointing out that youths should rather concentrate on education which is the bedrock of development for any progressive society.
The COAS made this disclosure when the outgoing Bangladeshi High Commissioner to Nigeria, Muhammad Shanim Ashan paid him a farewell visit at Army headquarters.

While urging the High Commissioner to tap from the experience of the Nigerian Army in its fight against insurgency, in the North East, he said there is a lot to be learnt by the outgoing envoy, in the professional and strategic manner the Nigerian Army’s counter-insurgency war is being handled and the federal government’s efforts to address other security and national challenges.

Gen Buratai noted that Mr. Ashan was instrumental to the setting up of the Nigeria – Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with a view to enhancing defence and economic cooperations, among the two nations as well as the Establishment of the Alumni Association of the National Defence College, Bangladesh in Nigeria.
Earlier, the outgoing High Commissioner, who said he had a wonderful time serving as a diplomat in Nigeria, disclosed that significant successes have been recorded in key bilateral relationships between his country and Nigeria.
While stressing the need to strengthen cooperation in the area of defence, education and agriculture, among others, between Nigeria and Bangladesh, Ashan urged his successor to build on the existing legacies he will be leaving behind.
