The dethroned Emir of Maru in Zamfara state, Alhaji Abubakar Chika Ibrahim, sacked by Zamfara state government last year for alleged aiding and abating banditry has drugged the Inspector General of Police and five others to court, seeking for N6.5 billion as damages for his illegal arrest, detention and defamation of character.
The other five respondents in the suit are, Director General State’s Security Service, Commissioner of police Zamfara state, Assistant Director, State security Service Gusau and Secretary to Zamfara state government, Alhaji Bala Bello Maru.
But after hearing of the case today, the Presiding Judge, Justice Fatima Murtala Aminu gave two option for the transfer of the suit to Zamfara state High Court or Appeal Court in Sokoto for further determination.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the ruling, the Counsel to the applicant, Barrister Abubakar Aliyu Salisu said, they are going to study the ruling by the Federal High Court Gusau carefully to decide next line of Action to take.
It could be recalled that in August last year, Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, approved the removal of the Emir of Maru, Abubakar Cika, and the district head of Kanoma, Lawal Ahmad, for allegedly giving support to bandits responsible for hundreds of deaths.
The traditional rulers were suspended in June following protests by their subjects amidst allegations of connivance with armed bandits and cattle thieves in their territory.
The government set up a committee headed by the former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, to investigate the alleged involvement of the local leaders while the dethroned Emir of Maru Alhaji Abubakar Chika arrested by the Police and remanded in custody for nine Months before he was released.
