The Zamfara State Government has chided the administration of former Governor Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar for misappropriation and diversion of over N37b Federal Roads funds belonging to the state he administration recieved from the Federal Government in 2019, as it called on International Community, Anti Grab Security Agency to track the whereabout of the funds and return to the state’s treasury.
The State Commissioner of Finance, Rabi’u Garba Gusau made the observation at a press conference in Gusau Tuesday about the development.
According to him, between 2012 to 2019, the previous government under the leadership of former Governor Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar has constructed 14 different roads belonging to the Federal Government across the state to tun of over 47 billion Naira which was owed the Federal Government to Zamfara State Government.
He revealed that the present administration of Goveronor Bello Mohammed Matawalle had written a letter to the Dept Management Agency in Abuja on how to reimburse the amount to the state government with a view to enable it meet the yearning and aspirations of the entire good citizens of the state considering the economic stagnation.
He said, the Dept Management Department had notified the state that differently, over N14.9 billion was paid to a lady who is serving in Nigerian Governors Forum NGF, and Director General of the Nigerian Governors Forum NGF, received over N22.4 billion on behalf of the Zamfara State Government, challenged that the said two people collected the funds have nothing to do with Zamfara State and never serve in any capacity in Zamfara State.
He added that the two nominated person collected the money on behalf of the Zamfara State Government have aknowleged the recieved of the said amount in the provisional notes separately which was available to the state government for keeping record.
“A letter recieved from Dept Management indicated that,the money should be deposited into UBA but unfortunately we realized that the money was found diverted by the previous government under the leadership of former Governor Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar to unidentified account”. He said.
The Commissioner charged Former Goveronor Abdulaziz Yari to return over N10 billion been disappeared or diverted, in respect of establishing a state University located in Talata Mafara to the state government treasury to enable the state government under the leadership of Goveronor Bello Mohammed Matawalle provide basic necessities of life to the good people of the state.
“It is devastating that the money taken was meant for the establishment of the state University but we wonder why the previous government under the leadership of former Governor Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar was spent the money unnecessarily without proper documentation during his handover to the Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle on the 29/5/2019”. He said.
The Finance Commissioner also called on proper execution of the parpetrators of the act, regardless of their position in the Country and state in general.
